Company Info

The inspiration for the name, Cano Petroleum, comes from the achievements of the 16th century Spanish explorer Juan Sebastian del Cano, a captain in Ferdinand Magellan’s famous globe–circling expedition. Shortly after landing in the Philippines, Magellan was killed and Captain del Cano took command of the expedition.

Under del Cano’s leadership, the fleet continued its journey westward, becoming the first to successfully circumnavigate the globe in a continuous voyage. In addition to saving the lives of the surviving sailors, del Cano turned a profit on the expedition from the cargo of cloves that he loaded his ship’s holds with before returning to Portugal.

Like the company’s namesake, Cano Petroleum has assumed a leadership role in the recovery of additional hydrocarbons from domestic sources, lessening the United States’ dependence on foreign oil. In keeping with del Cano’s legacy, Cano Petroleum is committed to achieving its strategic goals and building value for its shareholders.
